Hold on to your butt's because here's another one brought to you high above New York City! This is an image from a flight a few months back where I had to take a second look to appreciate it and now it became one of my favorites...

There are a lot of arguments out there about mirrorless vs. DSLRs. Both systems have their pros and cons but there are certain features on my Sony A7 cameras that I wouldn't be able to live without if I switched back to DSLR...

One thing I learned about using tilt shift lenses years ago from Vincent Laforet was that you can use the selective focus to tell the audience exactly where to look in your photos. In this case, I used the tilt shift to focus only on the part of the skyline where the Empire State and Chrysler buildings are. Even though there are tons of other buildings in the image, that's where your eye is drawn to...

For years I've wanted to mess around with a tilt shift lens. After seeing my buddy, Efrain, shoot a ton of sick photos with a tilt shift while walking around Cuba, I was fully motivated to get my own. Sony doesn't make a tilt shift lens so I had to look for a Canon lens which I ended up getting a really good deal on Ebay...

A lot of people ask me how scary it is to hang out of an open door helicopter over New York City. On the scaredy cat scale from 1-10, it's a 1.5. You're so focused on the incredible views and experience that you forget what you're actually doing. In most cases, when it's your first time, you're so focused on snapping away with your camera or phone that you don't appreciate the views as much as you should. It took me a few flights to actually stop and take a minute to look around and soak it all in...

Although most of my aerial images are of building in the city, there's much more to see besides the city itself. When flying from the FLYNYON hangar in New Jersey to NYC, you spend a decent amount of time over the harbor before you get downtown. This time is mostly utilized by the Statue Of Liberty and your first look at the skyline from above but there's much more going on underneath you...

Gear photos get a lot of love; PHOTOGRAPHERS LOVE GEAR! I don't remember what made me want to do this but I had an idea to shoot a product shot of my Sony A7S with the Alpha logo behind it. The fun part was that the A was going to be done with light painting...

A few months ago I started working with NYonAir and FlyNYON as a video editor. Once in a while, I go up on a flight to shoot some BTS video for their social media outlets. Last year I blogged about my experience as a customer in what it was like to dangle your legs over the skyscrapers. Now I'm fortunate enough to be working together with these amazing people...

Like many other people in the past year or two, I've made the switch from Canon to Sony for for video purposes. I've been shooting video mostly with Canon DSLRs for the past 5 years and aside from ISO performance in sensor technology, they have all had the same exact features since the 5D II was released. I don't know whats going on at Canon but they are not keeping with the times. A year ago I was looking into an alternative to my 6D and found myself deciding between the Panasonic GH4 and the Sony A7S. I went with the Panasonic since it was better value but it had a different place for me since it was so different from a Canon DSLR. I was either using one or the other, very rarely would I use both on the same shoot. I was looking for an all in one package. Since Sony released the A7S II, I had no choice but to look into it. On paper it seemed like a real game changer...
