I did it! One full year of posting a story about a photo every week! To celebrate, this weeks photo is of a view I have been quite familiar with over the past 20yrs or so.
Taking the Staten Island Ferry is a common commute for many New Yorkers every day going to and from work from Staten Island to Manhattan. Most people will huddle around the few outlets throughout the ferry to catch a charge for their dying cell phones but during the warmer months, my favorite place to sit is on the rear outside deck on the first floor. Usually, the tourists want the highest view so they're on the upper levels climbing on top of each other but it's never crowded downstairs and you don't have the crazy wind blowing at you like you do in the front so you can sit down on the metal curbs and relax with a little breeze.
Although it's not glamorous down there since it's originally meant for cars to go on (pre 9/11) there are no seats, so you have to sit on the floor unless you stand the whole ride. However, this is the view you have during your free 25minute ride.
