After attending the Photo Plus expo the other weekend, you see so many amazing huge prints, new gear, and hear free seminars that you can't help but want to go out and shoot photos right away. Luckily, I had my camera with me and it was an unseasonably warm night in NYC, so I was able to take my bike out and ride around downtown. I also had my new Sony 12-24mm f/4, so it was a nice chance to utilize this focal length with street/ cityscape photography.
On my Instagram, I did a whole week of photos I shot on the ride home from photo plus so here are the images from that night plus a few more.

As I was doing my best to chase the sunset down the West Side Highway, I missed the warm colors but managed to catch the moon rising directly over the spire of the Freedom Tower.

I shot this photo while riding down the bike lane towards the World Trade Center. I did this one with no hands and an extremely high iso. Four days after I shot this photo, a person drove his truck onto the bike path and killed eight people right in this very same intersection I am crossing on my bike. I seem to keep just missing these insane terrorist attacks.

I've obviously photographed the Freedom Tower a bunch over the past couple of years so it's nice to find some new perspectives on it. The plaid lights coming off this Gucci store at Brookfield Place caught my eye.

I had to shoot this at six seconds to blur all the tourists walking around and it seemed to have worked quite well.

One of the new hottest photo locations of NYC has been the Oculus at World Trade Center. Luckily, I was able to get a couple of minutes here. I've photographed here a bunch also, but not with the Sony 12-24mm, so it was cool being able to capture these images at 12mm.

With most wide angle lenses, even a typical 16-35mm, it's nearly impossible to fit the whole length of those top windows in one shot. At 12mm, its a piece of cake so it was fun being able to incoporate that in my photos.

I discovered this angle during an Apple photo walk a few months back and had to re-shoot it with a wider lens. This is from the dead center spot of the balcony where everyone typically gets there symmetrical photos of the Oculus, but no one seems to look down.

Here is the complete opposite angle of the previous shot. Those two people are standing right where I was looking straight down from.

As every trip to Manhattan ends for me when I take my bike, here is the Staten Island Ferry terminal where I take the boat back to Staten Island. I remember also not being able to really fit the whole sign with my older wide angle lenses, so I was finally able to get a photo like this.
