I'm happy to be able to start 2017 off with some fresh new photos from another part of the world. I've only spent New Years Eve outside of New York once before but this was the first time I spent it internationally. Once I found out that I was going to be in Dubai, this was one of the first images that popped into my head to capture while I was out here.
Dubai hosts the largest fireworks show in the world and even though I'm not big on fireworks, I was sure it wasn't something to miss. I knew I was going to have rooftop access to get a nice view of Downtown Dubai, where the fireworks were beginning, so I didn't have to worry about struggling to find a nice spot at midnight.
This was probably only the second time I've ever attempted to shoot fireworks and I forgot everything I learned from the first time around so this was almost a fresh start for me. I just guess some settings which I figured would work and went for it. I made a few minor adjustments along the way but overall it worked out good enough for what I wanted.
Even though one of the reasons I switched to Sony mirrorless cameras was for small size and convenience when traveling, I had to pack my huge canon 70-200mm f/2.8L since it was the only telephoto I owned. Luckily it fit nicely inside the foam roller I packed in my luggage anyway.
Happy new year everyone!
