The other day, for reasons unknown to myself, the city was operating ferries to Governors Island up until 9:00pm which is 4 hours later than their usual schedule. This usually doesn't seem like that big of a deal but it did mean that for the first day, you were able to get sunset photos from the island.
A few buds and I took our bikes out on the 7:30pm ferry to get a last minute chance at photos before and during sunset. We scrambled to climb the new hills that were built that week and get as many photos as we could before the sun went down. However, while we went back to get our bikes and head back to the ferry was when the real magic began. I kept taking the same shot of the State Of Liberty over and over again on the way to our bikes. Every time I thought I got the shot, the sky grew with even more color. This was the last photo I took before we rushed back to the ferry when the sunset was at its peak.
